Your Ultimate Guide to 2019’s Hottest Hairstyles

2019 has been a very transformative year already.  Most are learning lessons of the past and using this year as a rebirth of sorts to let go of old, un-serving patterns and create new, healthier habits. Luckily, this year’s most popular haircuts are low-maintenance and all about embracing what God gave you. That’s right, using your natural texture, face shape and hair type. These looks can enhance what is already beautiful about you and leave you more time to spend on doing what matters most.

If you’re looking to make a change, consider this your ultimate guide to the best haircuts for women this Spring.

The Transformative Fringe

Everywhere we look, people are loving the fringe. The almighty fringe is what’s hot this season. If it’s a curtain bang, or on curly hair, this face framing element easily provides a major transformation without a large investment.

The Curtain Bang is seriously one of my favorite ways to add a little sex appeal into your style.  Originally shown off by Brigitte Bardot, these peek a boo bangs, can be light or heavy and are much easier to style then other types. Couple this fringe with long hair or short to add some interest to your look without making a drastic change in length or layering.

Struggle with styling a fringe? No problem. Follow these steps and you too can wear this hot Spring look.

To Style:

1.     Start with a small paddle brush. We like our mini Wet Brush.

2.     Holding your hair dryer, aim the heat at the root of your fringe in one direction while using your paddle brush to brush your fringe in the same direction.

3.     Switch directions and repeat in opposite direction.

4.     Repeat back and forth until your root is dry and your fringe falls straight down without cowlicks.

5.     Use a 1 3/8 round brush. We love our Olivia Garden Round Brushes. The best ever! Concentrate the heat of your dryer on the top of the brush and you brush your fringe at 90 degrees out from the root and slightly round out the ends.  Do not overly round your ends or you will have little girl, 80’s bangs.

If you have any cowlicks in your fringe area this is the best way to train your hair to do what you want. Keep it up and the fight against wonky growth patters will get easier and easier. Promise.

Curly hair is on the uprise. More and more stylists are learning how to cut, style and color this far too long, much-ignored hair texture. I started my training at Devachan, in Soho, New York, which specializes in curly cutting and color. So thankfully I was introduced to this early.  Not everyone was, however. Most cosmetology schools train curly hair just as they would straight hair and it simply is not the same. Curly hair is its own world and how it is cared for, cut, colored, and styled is drastically different. Stay tuned for next week’s blog on caring for and styling your curls.

Ok, back to today’s post… The curly bang is in and we are LOVING it. Both styles with defined curls or messier natural textured curls, like Zendaya here, can sport this fringe that adds a little bit of edge to your already head-turning curls.

Mid-length Cuts

Long hair is a fan favorite, but mid-length cuts are showing up more and more across celebrities, bloggers, and everyday women.  This length gives you the best of both worlds…the ability to wear it up in a pony for those busy days and heavy-duty workouts and short enough to add some cool edge or style to your outfit without much effort.

I always say the right haircut is it’s own accessory. If you have a cute hairstyle, it will dress up your style even when you are sporting a basic t-shirt and jeans.

Wear it sleek like Margot Robbie or messy like Kendall Jenner and Priyanka Chopra. The sky is the limit with mid-length cuts and we love them!

The Shag

Whether short or long, this haircut is very rock ‘n’ roll and looks effortless. While historically associated with Joan Jett and Mrs. Brady, this cut has taken on a modern twist and a new life of its own. Unlike past trends, the modern shag has choppy layers and lots of texture without eliminating a heavier length. (Complete opposite of the top-heavy layers coupled with thin, almost non-existent ends of the 80s and 90s, aka, The Rachel).

These cuts look best when they are not overly done.  Natural texture is in, so flat irons and perfect shiny blowouts are a no-no with this look.  Air-drying with a little product is the perfect way to style, especially if you have some natural wave.

You can couple a sexy wispy or curtain fringe with this cut as well to really be on trend!

The Blunt Bob

The bob with a blunt line is all the rage.  While last year loved textured, shattered layers, this year we are heading back to the precision structured look of a clean bob. This cut is amazing for finer hair types as the shorter and more blunt your cut is… the thicker your hair will look.  We highly recommend going for this look this spring.

Have thicker, heavier hair? Not a problem. Ask your stylist about internal layers. These layers allow the removal of weight on the inside of the haircut… naked to the eye. You can wear that blunt look without having a heavy, unmanageable cut to style.
