2023 Hair Trends We Love Right Now
Every January gym classes are packed, wine glasses are empty and salons are booked as masses of people make big changes to start off their new year with a clean and transformational start. So what are the hair trends of 2023? Some are new, some are evolutions of recent trends and some are just pulled straight out of the year 2000.

Isn’t it wonderful? The great fall of the side part sent throngs of women into a panic as they struggled to beat their cowlicks into submission in 2021. The expensive brunette isn’t just your run-of-the-mill dark chocolate brown hair color but refers to a multi-dimensional, rich look that delivers maximum shine like this color by stylist @colorbymarina.
When going darker, your hair must go through a two-step process at the salon to ensure the color remains rich and vibrant. It also must be healthy, with good porosity to ensure an even, multi-dimensional look. Here’s what you need to do pre-hair appointment to prep your hair for ultimate success
1. Clarify:
Use a clarifying shampoo, like O&M Original Detox Shampoo, to remove any build up from your hair and scalp.
2. Moisturize:
Use a deep conditioner or hydrating hair mask to deliver moisture and even out porosity. Our stylists go-to is Davines Nourishing Building Pak. Use a heat cap to open the cuticle and maximize absorption.
3. Strengthen:
Apply a hair bonding treatment, like Naturally Drenched Rebalance Pre-Conditioner Treatment 1 to 3 times per week for the 2-4 weeks before your appointment. This will even out strength and porosity and prep your hair for even application and vibrance.

2023 calls for rich and vibrant colors
Winter is often coupled with blondes trading in their sunlit locks for deep, moody tones (i.e. Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid’s 2022 transformation) and this year is no different. The “expensive brunette” as well as auburn or copper hair are hitting the scene hard this 2023.
This copper red by Michelle Zeller, aka Mane Ivy, would make anyone want to go red this year. Here's pre- and post-appointment steps master stylists recommend to keep your color looking rich longer:
Michelle Zeller highly recommends using a color tint shampoo every other week. Color tint, or color-depositing shampoo and conditioners, are mandatory to maintain red hair as it is one of the fastest fading hair colors. Go with Davines Alchemic Copper Shampoo and Conditioner for copper tones or Davines Alchemic Red Shampoo and Conditioner for more blue-red undertones like violet or mahogany hair color.

Use cold to tepid water to wash
Heat opens up the cuticle allowing hair color to escape so keep your red hair well red longer by only washing your hair with cold or tepid water.
Use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner.

Wash less
Permanent hair color lasts 6-8 weeks or 12-18 shampoos, so maintain your color longer by washing 1-2 times per week maximum.
Use a weekly deep conditioning treatment

Wolf Cut 2.0
This tik tok hair trend made us fall in love with the shaggy mullet once again. This 70's shag/80’s mullet combo coupled with a smokey eye? Forget about it….
The cut is great for almost every face shape as it can be transformed to minimize or accentuate everything.
What’s important to know about this cut is it is not a wash n’go style but requires some styling. Here are some of the most popular versions with tips on how to style each.
This short version of the wolf cut (rocked here by Jenna Ortega) is the boldest and most voluminous making it a great option for fine or medium hair types. While a skilled stylist can remove large amounts of weight to create this shattered shag, thicker hair types prone to frizz or unruliness will struggle to keep this cut looking coiffed.
To style, go with a volumizing and shape-setting styling product before blow out. We love Cult & King’s Jelly coupled with their Tonik for a full-bodied style coupled with optimum scalp health.
The long wolf cut allows you to experience this retro cut without losing length. To style, blow out your fringe first using a 1 ½ inch round brush. Apply a heat protection spray like Davines Oi All in One Milk before rough drying your remaining hair.
Once your hair is dry, use a 1 ¼ inch curling iron to create loose waves alternating your direction so it looks natural and messy. Follow up with a lightweight texture spray, like Reverie Mare Sea Salt Spray.

8. y2k HAIRSTYLES
The early 2000s are back with space buns, baby pigtails and butterfly clips. For those who really want to sport throwback styles, go with the zigzag part.
9. Bottle Neck Bangs
Bottleneck bangs made their appearance last year and are still hot as ever. This twist on the curtain bang is great for those with long face shapes and/or close set eyes and the outward flipping fringe pulls the eyes and face apart creating a horizontal silhouette.
How to style:
Step 1: Prep for volume. Use a volumizing product like Kavella Volumizing Mousse. Don't use anything to heave on the fringe to ensure you can wear them for mulitple days without them feeling weighed down or greasy.
Step 2: Wrap dry your bangs with the Denman Petite Paddle Brush one direction across your forhead and then switch directions. This will remove any cowlicks.
Step 3: Round brush the ends forward and under to bevel the bangs (aka give them a flip or turn under at the ends) with the Olivia Garden 1.75 inch brush.
Step 4: Want them to stay in place or remove any frizz, spray a little Kavella Buildable Hairspray on your fingers then shape your bangs into place and smooth out any flyaways.
10. Pixie Bob Haircut
Who says short hair isn’t sexy. The pixie bob haircut has the versatility to be worn as a bob or actual edgy short cut. My favorite product for pixie's is Sparrow 4 Everyone's Hair Cream. It not only smooths, but creates a volume and texture. It is totally versatile styling product that you can use for multiple styles making it great for the wallet and your routine.
11. Curly curtain bangs
Curtain bangs look amazing on curly hair. Keep them long enough to allow room for shrinkage and have them cut according to your face shape and hair length.
They’re especially adorbs when coupled with a pineapple style or half up-style. Don’t let a bad past experience with bangs keep you from trying these out as they compliment almost everyone.
How to Style:
Step 1: From wet, apply leave in conditioner and curl cream, like Briogeo Curl Charisma Leave in Defining Cream, on mid-length and ends of curls. Comb through with a Tangle Teezer for Curly Hair.
Step 2: Shake out your section to allow your curls to form. Using a twisting motion if your curls need a little assistance to form.
Step 3: Gently blot out excess moisture with a microfiber towel or man’s t-shirt.
Step 4: Diffuse bangs sitting in a forward position first. If you diffuse upside down, you risk your bangs drying in an upward position which is not ideal for a front-facing fringe.
Step 5: Diffuse or air dry the remainder of your hair.

Informed healthy choices when shopping for your hair products is definitely on trend and here to stay.
